Maybe you’ve heard of Wealthy Affiliate, along with their recipe idea for success and maybe you haven’t. I know for me, when I first learned about them it literally came by accident! I was looking into another affiliate program, researching more about them to see if they were legitimate or a scam. In so doing, I came across Wealthy Affiliate and how their recipe for success has made an impression on me so great that I’m actually taking the time to do a write-up about them!
Speaking as a cook by trade who is known for tweaking recipes at times, I know how sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Most of the time I can make it work, but through trial and error have learned its success depends on close you pay attention to what you’re doing! Lose focus and you’ve just dished out disaster!
Sound familiar? And this doesn’t just apply to cooking! This also applies in literally all we do! Experiments can be good, but one still needs to remember what works first!
(Not just) within Wealthy Affiliate, I have witnessed this myself! I’ve followed the training, to the letter, and did stick to the recipes for success laid out as closely as I can! In so doing, I know great strides have been taken that show all the ingredients taught are exactly what’s needed to dish out our own success stories! Following their recipes of success, to the letter, will indeed guarantee positive results!
Hey, You! Pay Attention!
However, one needs to pay attention to what they’re doing! Here’s a question;
Have you ever went to cook something, only to forget about it because you got distracted? I know this has happened to me! It’s easy to get distracted!
As a cook, probably the funniest story ever of a food product I destroyed was at the kitchen of a golf course I worked at. I was to pre-cook 200 breakfast sausage links and I did this through their giant pizza oven. After traying and placing the sausages, I knew they would need to cook for about an hour. At the time, I didn’t think to set the timer as I was certain I’d remember.
Three Hours Later…
Well, I did forget about them! I was distracted with other kitchen duties and didn’t think about them after there was a burning odor that filled the kitchen. Only then did I remember those sausages! When I took trays out, there were trays of what now looked like charred black fingerlings!
That little mistake by not staying focused (all it took was setting a timer) not only cost 200 sausage links but three hours of my shift while on company time! I had to act fast and replace those sausage links and I did so by grabbing another box and redo the process again! Needless to say, the second time around I made sure to use that kitchen timer! One mistake is bad enough, but to allow doing the same twice in a row? No way!
Being the type of person I am, I approached the manager and told her what happened. I then offered to pay for the 200 lost sausages as that was my fault. While they were fine with just the apology, I still insisted to pay. The price tag of my mistake was $75.00!
So what does my burnt sausage story have to do with the point I’m trying to make here? It’s an example of what happens when we don’t prep ourselves to avoid disaster! All it honestly takes is being mindful and stay focused, like setting that timer for the sausages!
…just like setting a timer for whatever tasks we lay out for ourselves in anything we do!
When I started training with Wealthy Affiliate, I set a personal timer to go through all the lessons provided. I knew I had to pace myself properly! However, even in that regard, as I engaged in each lesson taught, I found myself getting distracted by adding more weight to my shoulders. In so doing, I lost focus!
Just as it showed in the sausages, I burned up valuable time and even money that would have been better spent if only I had stuck to the recipes of success that was taught by those within Wealthy Affiliate who already accomplished what the rest of us are aiming to do!
Despite my fumbling due to the distractions, I did learn it’s not entirely a bad thing to experiment a little bit as this is to be expected when you explore new horizons. This is to be expected as you learn from the instruction team of WA. The key, however, is to not get so distracted that you completely lose sight of what’s supposed to be most important to you!
While I didn’t exactly venture too far from the paths Wealthy Affiliate laid out for me, I did take some scenic routes that I should have avoided! However, wasting time on “should have, could have, would have” is a waste of energy! One thing I learned long ago is dwelling on past mistakes is even worse than actually making them!
Mistakes happen, but some mistakes can be a good thing too! Again, speaking as a cook, I recall making the mistake of using an entire lemon towards a recipe where I was supposed to make lemon poppy seed muffins. This was while I worked at a care facility for seniors. I didn’t realize the mistake until long after the muffins were baked and the seniors already ate them. It wasn’t until I had to make them again, three weeks later, where I saw where I goofed! The recipe called for the rind of the lemon only, not the whole thing! But, I threw in the whole thing. Again, whoops!
Taking Advantage Of Mistakes
Oddly enough, I recall how the staff commented that fateful day three weeks prior how all the seniors gorged those lemon poppy seed muffins like savages! Each of them told me they never saw that happen before! They also mentioned for the first time in a long time, some seniors were even asking for seconds! So, remembering this, I chose to go with the whole lemon again instead of what the recipe called for.
In that situation, I used a mistake to my advantage, learning from that experience that sometimes mistakes can be a good thing. This is also the case with the burnt sausages as I took in that mistake as a positive as well. From that day onward, I learned how important it is to respect all the tools and tricks of the trade that are proven successful. Never again did I repeat the mistake of the “set and forget’ to the point where the forget part was taken too literally!
In the case of Wealthy Affiliate, as I’d set something in motion according to what they taught, the one thing I refused to do was forget! Even as distracted as I got, I knew all the recipes to my potential success would be in vain if I ignored key ingredients!
Those key ingredients include; attentiveness, awareness, motivation, patience, and understanding.
Flat out, as the teacher often says, pay attention! Wealthy Affiliate wasn’t slapped together by a team of clueless amateurs! They are genuinely teaching tried and true methods that work! Failure to pay attention to this rightfully gives one the distinct honor of wearing a dunce cap!
Being attentive is one thing, but without the awareness to go with it, is useless! That awareness of what you’re doing and why you’re doing it is only the first half of what this recipe calls for! The other half is the awareness of whom are you paying attention to, as well as the awareness of your niche!
Don’t confuse this with awareness! Being aware of what you’re doing and why is one thing, but staying motivated enough to keep doing it is something different! They do go together, yes, but they do not function the same way! It’s like making salt and vinegar potato chips! The flavoring goes great together, but they are entirely different ingredients from each other!
One thing I’ve learned within the Wealthy Affiliate community is the people there are very good at helping others stay motivated! Should anyone feel discouraged, or perhaps lose their way, communication with the WA community really is that important! This even includes talking to the likes of Kyle and Carson, who are the co-founders! They may be busy, but not too busy to help you! I know this as a fact as I’ve personally approached Kyle with concerns and he was instrumental in keeping my motivation level and focus where it needs to be!
It’s extremely rare to come across genuine overnight success stories! For the most part, real honest success stories all have in common the vital ingredient which is called patience! Like babies taking their first steps, stumbling is a given! And, yes, even falling!
Patience (along with at least a pinch of determination) is what one needs to keep taking those baby steps until you are finally able to take long strides!
We live in a world that has always been impatient! And it seems today that patience level has become even thinner than before! Too many want to reach the finish line while still at the starting gate at the same time! Folks, it doesn’t work that way! Even in Star Trek series, when they beam someone from one spot to another, there is a process!
In truth, the more you apply attentiveness, awareness, motivation, and patience in a well-balanced manner, the faster you will reach that desired finish line than if you attempt to do otherwise!
This is the one ingredient many people leave out! And, this is why they stumble from the starting gate and down the racetrack of life where it often feels like a complex obstacle course! This is due to hurdles before them, all of which are first put in place by not being attentive! And, if you’re not aware of these hurdles, you will plow straight into them instead of leaping over like a gazelle! This leads to struggling with motivation, which then results in a loss of patience! See the pattern here?
Simply put, you need to understand what you’re getting into! Only then can you better understand how to deal with it! Coming from a cook’s experience, I know all too well how important it is to understand your environment and how to work with it! I’ve been in many commercial and industrial kitchens and no two are the same! However, despite their differences, they all do share similarities that one needs to be aware of so they can function without incident while on the job. Understanding this is vital! Speaking as a cook, if I can’t understand how any given kitchen works, regardless of the layout, then I have no business being in one!
And this applies to absolutely everything we do! Unless you make an effort to better understand what you’re in and what you’re aiming for, you are wasting valuable time and energy! The only recipe ingredients that truly work to reach that pivotal level of understanding are attentiveness, awareness, motivation, and patience!
Essential Recipe Ingredients For Success
Learning takes time and that requires patience! Again, speaking as a cook, do you think I learned how to prepare over-easy eggs with ease overnight? When I first started out in a commercial kitchen there was a reason why the boss started me out in the back as a prep-cook instead of going straight to the front line!
Any given job most people ever had typically started at an entry-level. This identical pattern also applies to business ventures, including affiliate programs. It also applies to everyday life! Newborns don’t start life knowing everything! They are taught, step for step, until they grow out of the baby stage.
When we start with Wealthy Affiliate, we literally start as babies! Even if some of us may be familiar with affiliate programs and/or internet marketing already, we still go through that newborn stage as we also learn, step by step! And, speaking again from experience, should you skip a step, you will most likely stumble!
Luckily for us, when we reach out to fellow associates within Wealthy Affiliate, that stumble doesn’t mean we have to flat on our face! The full fall only happens when one is too stubborn to admit they need to pay closer attention to each of their steps!
Recipe For Disaster – Dropping Out!
Recalling my own childhood, I do remember how children who actually exercised all the ingredients mentioned (attentiveness, awareness, motivation, patience, and understanding) were far more successful at everything they did as compared to those who didn’t! I wasn’t always well-focused and this resulted in me not always having the best grades, nor winning any kind of student awards! I even dropped out after the tenth grade because I felt high school was letting me down!
The realm of Wealthy Affiliate University is as literal as the title sounds! What comes from Kyle, Carson, and the WA ambassadors is quality education! So, in reality, whatever you get out of what they teach here is going to depend squarely on how much you are willing to pay attention, keep aware, stay motivated, exercise patience, and reach understanding! All of those are tried and true ingredients to guarantee the recipe of success works exactly as it should!
